Business Development Manager - UK

  • Remote
    • London, Greater London, United Kingdom
  • Revenue

Job description

Within Roamler Retail we are looking for a strategic and commercial Business Development Manager with proven track record in Retail. Are you ready to grow with us?

About us

Roamler is the AI-powered Route-to-Market Execution Platform. We help the world's biggest FMCG brands grow revenue, cut cost-to-serve and win at the point of sale. We combine ground-truth store data, AI image recognition and an on-demand field crowd, and we run the whole loop: sense, decide, act, measure, in a continuous cycle. The UK is a priority growth market for us and we are expanding our commercial team here. This role owns a defined portfolio of UK target accounts, with a mandate to go and win them.

Why customers work with Roamler

Everyone else does one part of the job. Data and EPOS vendors show what slipped but cannot act on it. Image recognition tools analyse the shelf but have nobody in store to fix what they expose. Field agencies put people in store but are blind to where the revenue actually leaks. We own all four pieces, so we can decide the action and then go and execute it, helping our customers win at the point of sale.

That means our data tells a brand which stores are losing money and why, our crowd goes in and fixes the out-of-stock, pricing or compliance issue, and we come back with proof of what it recovered. The full Route to Market within Retail Execution.

Job requirements

Who are you?

As Business Development Manager you are responsible for sourcing, winning and then growing your own territory. The weighting is roughly 70% new business, 30% developing the accounts you win and a defined set of existing customers. You draw on your own network to find new opportunities, taking full accountability for your own revenue number.

Identifying and sitting down with a prospect is often the easy part. The real challenge is step two: translating that enthusiasm into a plan and then capitalising on it to build a strategic partnership with the customer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attract new customers by identifying brands' use cases and partnering with marketing to source new leads

  • Build and run your own pipeline: prospecting, outreach, qualification, negotiation and close

  • Win business from entrenched incumbent suppliers, not just chase greenfield

  • Develop the accounts you win, plus a defined set of existing customers, becoming their go-to trusted advisor on the next generation of retail execution

  • Build data-driven business cases that demonstrate top-line and bottom-line value

  • Identify best-in-class initiatives in your market to replicate across Europe, and own the profitability of the business you write

What you bring

  • A proven new-business record in retail, FMCG or retail services, with the numbers to back it up

  • Live relationships with major CPG or retail accounts. You can meetings from the outset

  • You own numbers, not just relationships: pipeline you sourced yourself, accounts you grew from nothing

  • Comfortable as the challenger: an incumbent relationship reads to you as a starting point, not a closed door

  • A genuine self-starter with scale-up energy: strategic enough to build the plan, hands-on enough to deliver it, and positive and steady when things get difficult

  • Domain fluency. You have sold into or have a deep understanding of retail execution, category management, shopper insights, or sales and data. On-shelf availability, share of shelf, planogram compliance and promo activation are your vocabulary, not a briefing you need first

  • A top-tier closer with a genuine hunter mentality.

Why this role is worth a conversation

  • You are not starting cold. We have a mature portfolio and lots of opportunities to grow.

  • We have a mature operations running, platform proven across 15+ markets. You are selling something that works, not a roadmap.

  • We genuinely help our customers win at the point of sale, by improving volume and decreasing cost to serve.

  • The accounts are winnable. Most of your target list already knows us.

  • Short lines. You report directly to the Head of Sales. No layers to work through to price a deal or shape an offer.

What do we offer you?

The culture in Roamler is informal and collaborative. It is a great place to work hard and have fun at the same time. You will work with a team of professionals and will grow internationally with our fast-growing company. On top of that, we offer:

  • A competitive annual salary with an uncapped commission scheme

  • Remote working from the UK

  • Company pension plan

  • Life assurance cover of 2x your annual salary

  • Laptop + mobile phone

  • £250 budget to set up your home office

  • International travel to our HQ in Amsterdam and a team with a genuine can-do mentality
